Grade II listed fishermen’s cottage situated close to the centre of the English Riviera town of Brixham with its beaches and harbour within walking distance.

This traditional four-storey house is a great little base for a small family or a couple looking to be close to Brixham’s harbour, shops and restaurants. Navigate your way along the narrow roads lined with pretty painted cottages and you’ll feel city life melt away.

Step straight into the living room and there’s no doubt you’ve arrived at the seaside, with a fresh nautical colour scheme of blue and white alongside plenty of comfy beach-hut emblazoned cushions. It’s down a spiral staircase to the kitchen/diner, where children and grown-ups alike will love discovering the ‘secret garden’ and its secluded sunny patio - the perfect spot for a post-dinner glass from the wine fridge, while someone else loads the dishwasher. The first floor double room has a lovely bright feel, and children or extra guests will settle straight into the twin on the second floor.

The cottage is set just a road back from the town centre, with ample cafes, restaurants and shops to wander, while the bustling harbour is 150 metres away. It’s less than a mile through town to Breakwater Beach and the seawater pool, and about the same in the other direction to pretty Battery Gardens and the hidden coves along the coast. Walkers can hook up with the South West Coast Path and visit Elberry Cove, 2 miles from the house, where the crystal-clear blue waters twinkle in the sunshine. Or walk around the headland to Berry Head Lighthouse – the shortest but also the highest lighthouse in the UK, with some fantastic views. Further afield, the historic town of Dartmouth with its castle, and the shopping and attractions of Paignton are each just a 5-mile drive away.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

A quaint and quirky little cottage situated ideally for exploring the town, harbour and surrounding area. The kitchen was well fitted out with all the equipment needed to cook a lovely fresh cod from the harbour. The quirky stairs kept us fit as the property was spread over four floors. We had a very comfortable stay and would use again.

A lovely, comfortable cottage with a homely feel to it. Themed decoration adds to the warmth of it. Stairs would be challenging for less mobile guests. The location of the cottage is excellent and the parking pass is a tremendous asset given the nature of of the streets. Harbour and shops are within 5 minutes walk. Great location with easy access to the coastal paths, the harbour and shops, all 2 minutes away. Stairs in the cottage are steep and only for the able. Plenty of room for 2 and a dog but imagine a squeeze with anymore although sleeps 4.

Fantastic week at Seagulls Rest - cottage was cute, comfortable, in a fantastic location and just perfect for us as a family of four. Very helpful owners, thank you! Our children, 8 and 5, loved their room & it worked well with the bathroom on the same floor as them. Our double room was beautiful with lots of storage space. Recommend fresh crab sanRead moredwiches from Claws stall on the harbour, cream tea at Studio tearoom in Ashburton and walk to Prawle Point. Fabulous time! Hide

Lovely cottage, nicely furnished but stairs are quite steep and narrow. Good parking just 5 mins walk. Short walk to the lovely harbour. Fishcombe Cove cafe is lovely and the dog walks are great around Battery Gardens and Berry Head and beyond.

Quirky cottage with some lovely decorative touches. The stairs are a challenge & would be unsuitable for small dogs, children & less mobile. It is in a good location, if you do not mind steep hills, to get to the shops, places to eat & drink & walks. It is very pleasant walking in either direction along coast. There are a number of things to do in Read morethe area. Dartmouth is nice over the ferry, National Trust properties are dog friendly, as are Berry Head & the Battery Gardens. Hide

There are several narrow streets to explore lined with colourful fishermen’s houses, with plenty of other great places nearby to discover including Paignton, Plymouth and Torquay.
