This impressive, three-storey house, with room for up to eight guests, is located above the bay in Brixham’s Furzeham area, close to a charming park and only half a mile uphill from the harbour, where you’ll find a selection of superb fish restaurants. While you’re there, visit the Golden Hind, a full-size replica of Sir Francis Drake’s Tudor galleon, or book a sea safari, fishing trip, or pleasure cruise. From April to October, you can take a 30-minute ferry across the bay to Torquay (9 miles by road), where there are shops, galleries, restaurants, museums, a model village and golden beaches. For a peaceful swim, Fishcombe Cove is also only half a mile away, though the area offers a series of fabulous beaches, including popular Breakwater Beach (1 mile), a favourite with scuba divers, and the secluded Churston Cove (0.5 miles), which is dog-friendly all year round.
Take one step up to the front door and, once inside, turn right into the handsome lounge, with its beautiful ornamental fireplace and elegant bay window. This is a calm setting for a relaxed evening together, perhaps making the most of the Smart TV with a family movie or a favourite series. The kitchen is kitted out with everything you’ll need to create delicious meals, including a microwave and a dishwasher, and boasts a breakfast bar with two high stools where you can perch and chat with the cook. The dining room flows from here, with original floorboards, another ornamental fireplace, and a table that seats eight with chairs and a bench. Completing the ground floor is a small sunroom – a delightful spot for curling up with a book or magazine. On the first floor, you’ll find two spacious bedrooms, a king-size and a double, both featuring quality mattresses and lovely linens. A cottage-style staircase leads to the second floor, which boasts two further bedrooms: a king-size with sea views over the town’s rooftops, and a delightful twin. All four bedrooms share a family bathroom on the first floor, and an adjacent, separate WC.
From the sunroom, stroll into the enclosed back garden, furnished with a dining set on a raised deck, as well as deckchairs, and a charcoal BBQ on a raised, shingle area at the far end. With plenty of space for children and a dog to play, this is the perfect spot in which to enjoy the fresh sea air.
