Grade II listed fishermen’s cottage situated close to the centre of the English Riviera town of Brixham with its beaches and harbour within walking distance.
This traditional four-storey house is a great little base for a small family or a couple looking to be close to Brixham’s harbour, shops and restaurants. Navigate your way along the narrow roads lined with pretty painted cottages and you’ll feel city life melt away.
Step straight into the living room and there’s no doubt you’ve arrived at the seaside, with a fresh nautical colour scheme with plenty of comfy beach-hut emblazoned cushions. It’s down a steep, cottage-style spiral staircase to the kitchen/diner, where children and grown-ups alike will love discovering the ‘secret garden’ and its secluded sunny patio - the perfect spot for a post-dinner glass from the wine fridge, while someone else loads the dishwasher. The first-floor double room has a lovely bright feel, and children or extra guests will settle straight into the twin on the second floor – also accessed via a steep and winding staircase.
The cottage is set just a road back from the town centre, with ample cafes, restaurants and shops to wander, while the bustling harbour is 150 metres away. It’s less than a mile through town to Breakwater Beach and the seawater pool, and about the same in the other direction to pretty Battery Gardens and the hidden coves along the coast. Walkers can hook up with the South West Coast Path and visit Elberry Cove, 2 miles from the house, where the crystal-clear blue waters twinkle in the sunshine. Or walk around the headland to Berry Head Lighthouse – the shortest but also the highest lighthouse in the UK, with some fantastic views. Further afield, the historic town of Dartmouth with its castle, and the shopping and attractions of Paignton are each just a 5-mile drive away.
